Frome Labour Party event with guest speaker Lord Jim Knight
Thursday 13th December
Doors open at 7:30pm // Speaker from 8:30pm
The Frome Labour Party are pleased to welcome Lord Knight of Weymouth (Jim Knight) back to his adopted home of Frome. During the 1990s he served as Town and District Councilor and Mayor of Frome. He was also responsible with Bob Ashford and Jerry Wines for setting up the Cheese and Grain.
In 2001 he won the South Dorset parliamentary seat and built a successful parliamentary career as Minister for Education and Minister for the South West during the Labour Government. In 2010 he was made a life peer in the dissolution honour’s list and is now the Shadow Environment Minister in the Lords. Jim will talk about such recent and controversial subjects as the badger cull, the abolition of the Agricultural Wages Board and the ash tree debacle
“Jim is a fighter, a winner and living proof that the Labour Party can make progress and triumph on what appears to be the inhospitable political ground of the South West.”
