We are looking for a confident and experienced venue manager to join our team on a freelance basis. As Rook Lane Arts Trust’s programme grows to incorporate more evening events, we are seeking an enthusiastic and confident front of house manager to support with managing the venue during specific evenings, offering continuity with hirers and support to our team of volunteers.
This is a part-time, freelance position. The postholder can expect between 1 and 5 evenings per month with shifts set at the beginning of every season (once every three months).
Fees: £50 per event from 5:30pm until 11pm weekdays and weekends.
The role is ideally sutied to an individual with experience in venue management, looking for rewarding part-time work within one of Frome’s burgeoning arts centres. An interest in the arts would be beneficial but is not essential.

Job description:
- To liaise with hirers at the start of the night.
- To set up the bar at the start of the evening.
- To greet / brief the team of volunteers upon arrival.
- To act as fire marshal and health and safety monitor during evening events, ensuring that fire regulations are kept and that appropriate risk assessments are in place.
- To ensure that all RLAT terms and conditions are kept by the hirer – i.e.: venue capacity, alcohol sale and consumption, noise and parking restrictions.
- To ensure that the venue and building is used in the proper way by hirers and audiences – including proper use of lighting equipment.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience of buildings or venues management, including caretaking / key holding responsibilities.
- Good awareness of health and safety procedures and fire safety for a large venue.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with promoters, musicians and members of the public.
- A confident approach to team leadership and the ability to make clear decisions under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience of bar management and / or knowledge of alcohol licencing
- Experience of working in a live music venue or arts centre.
- Experience of working with volunteers.
- Knowledge of stage lighting.
- An interest in the arts.
