THE UNVANQUISHED (Aparajito) 1956
Sunday 14th September
Film at 7:30pm // Doors open an hour before
dir Satyajit Ray India 1956 110 minutes subtitled
The second part of Ray’s Apu trilogy tracks Apu’s passage from boyhood to manhood as his family moves to Benares and he receives his education. The relationship between mother and son and the intense contrast between Apu’s village and city life illuminate this exemplary study of changing values and involuntary choices, rounded off by Ravi Shankar’s wonderfully evocative music.
