Elsie Owusu’s talk will describe how the the former Middlesex Guildhall  in Parliament Square London was refurbished to become the UK Supreme Court (UKSC). She will show how it now serves the needs of the lawyers, users and Justices – providing modern courtrooms and workplaces, as well as being UK’s international symbol for justice and the rule of law. Owusu will discuss her role as lead architect for interiors and arts, the relationship between her team and the (then) Law Lords as clients – as well as the many eminent British artists and makers commissioned to create special designs for the building.

About Elsie Owusu OBE

Elsie Owusu, Ghanaian-British architect, is a partner at Feilden+Mawson (F+M) and runs her own practice, Elsie Owusu Architects (EOA). As an urban designer and Senior Conservation Architect her main interests are contemporary architecture, cities and their connection with fine arts. Formerly a board member of Arts Council England and the National Trust of England, Owusu joined F+M in 2006. She was lead architect for interiors and art on the UK Supreme Court and led F+M’s masterplanning team for Green Park Station, London. On Project Aurifex, she is creating a range of Fairtrade gold jewelry from Ghana, with several  prominent UK artists.

About ARCHITECTURE CLUB, FROME

Architecture Club is collaborative project initiated by Pippa Goldfinger, NVB / Rook Lane and RIBA South West. The project will bring architects, architectural writers, engineers and planners to Frome in order to stimulate a wide-reaching debate. Architecture Club runs talks on the first Tuesday of the month, as well as special one-off events throughout the year
