David Partner has kindly lent Rook Lane a collection of his prints – mostly images of Frome. I’ve hung them around the chapel and they add colour and (still) life to the white walls.
I took a particular liking to his Frome Women’s Institute image. It’s a collection of 12 portraits – the smiling faces of WI members – in black and white. Marianne and I hung it beside our desks and our office space is now called ‘The Women’s Corner’.
Incidentally, only moments after hanging – a local artist came to the chapel to discuss a feminist exhibition that she’d like to curate next March at Rook Lane – to coincide with International Women’s Day 2012. We discussed the possibility of having female speakers and artists coming in over the opening weekend.
But before next March there are plenty of other exhibitions and events to draw the masses into Rook Lane – starting with the Retro Market this Saturday 10am until 4pm. Free entry for those clad in vintage. And then four London flautists – Flutando – will be opening the next series of Teatime concerts on Sunday evening. They will no doubt produce melodic waves to stream through the chapel and delight the aural senses… see Rook Lane Arts website for more details.
