In today’s G2, Laura Barnett writes about Tessa Farmer’s current exhibition: ‘Enchanted Garden: Flower Fairies and Dark Tales’ at Mottisfont Abbey, Hampshire (National Trust).
Tessa Farmer makes the most incredibly intricate scenes – using roadkill and wings pulled off dead flies. Inspired by folklore and fairy-tales – Tessa’s works often tell their own tales – of evil fairy-flies in battle or the plight of the fox who has been ravaged by a team of tiny fairies.
I interviewed her for the Hackney Citizen when I was living in London – as she was exhibiting at Space. (See article here) and am pleased to see she’s still travelling around, sharing her comical – but sometimes quite dark – installations.
