125 Years of Quarrying
Thursday 14th July
10am - 4pm
In 1891, a group of businessmen led by John Wainwright decided to take advantage of the high-quality basalt rock available for quarrying in the Mendips.
Thus J.Wainwright & Company was born, and has grown ever since.
Now, a new book written by celebrated historian Robin Thornes, charts the company’s development over the last 125 years.
It’s a tale of commercial adventure, bold investment and entrepreneurial derring-do.
But more importantly, it’s a story about a close-knit family business, which retains its core values to this day.
Come along and celebrate Wainwright’s story. It’s been a long time in the making.
Exhibit open to the public on Thursday 14th July, 10-4pm
