Barefoot Architects :
‘Housing the Future : Who, What, Where, When, Why’

Barefoot Architects is an RIBA Chartered Practice run by Directors Sam Goss and Rob Hankey based in Bristol. The aim of the studio is to influence the industry and empower individuals and communities to build a better future by offering contemporary design that is forward thinking, and socially and environmentally aware. The name Barefoot derives from the principle of the ‘barefoot doctors’ of China who would travel between communities to provide essential medical services to people who did not readily have access to them. The attitude and approach of the practice is to provide professional services to a broad range of clients including community groups who may not ordinarily feel that they have access to them. The studio has a growing portfolio of projects that demonstrate a wide range of interests, but with a focus on custom build housing projects at all scales – from innovative individual residential schemes to group self and custom builds – including the UK’s largest and only 100% affordable​ cohousing scheme.​
