It is Friday afternoon, the temperature has dropped and the chilly air is freezing Frome. I’m sitting at my little desk – staring out into the clear, open space in front of me and feeling the familiar empty feeling that follows the take-down of an art exhibition – but also feeling warm inside.
The Frome Decorative Arts exhibition introduced me to 35 artists – most of whom I hadn’t previously met – and hundreds of visitors to the gallery. There was a really positive vibe throughout this exhibition – from the day the artists began hanging, to the *electric* private view and all the way to take-down today.
It’s such a pleasure to come into work every day when there are interesting, supportive people milling about. And that means the hirers and exhibitors – but also the lovely, loyal Rook Lane Arts volunteers.
We met yesterday afternoon in the Rook Lane cafe for our volunteers Christmas get together and had homemade mince pies, deliciously moist gluten-free chocolate cake with a cherry centre and scrumptious mulled wine – all provided by superwoman – Gill, our volunteer coordinator. We sat around chatting, eating and saying lots of “cheers”. The atmosphere was wonderful as everyone laughed and socialised and discussed their Christmas plans.
There are lots of gigs and concerts coming up (saxophone and string quartet Blaze next Thursday, folk singer-songwriter Jane Taylor next Friday, Society of Strange and Ancient instruments the following Friday (16th) and Bath Camerata on 18th December) but also Frome College BTEC students are exhibiting their angel-themed 2D art work in the gallery from 13th December.
May the positive vibes continue through the month of December and take us into 2012….!
