On Sunday 29 January, Rook Lane will become The Rialto for a special cinematic treat: a screening of the rarely-seen silent film STREET ANGEL with live, improvised piano accompaniment.
Frank Borzage’s 1928 tale of “human souls made great by love and adversity” – one of the very earliest films to win an Academy Award – will be enhanced by the inventiveness and dexterity of Andrew Youdell, who has had many years’ experience and acclaim as a silent film pianist. It will be Andrew’s first encounter with this great early work by Hollywood’s “undiscovered genius”.
The film will start at 5.30 p.m. and refreshments will be available from 4.30 p.m. Tickets are £8 (available from Cheese and Grain – 01373455420) to include tea/coffee and a slice of cake.
