… from our volunteers.
It was through stewarding the magnificent exhibitions at the Black Swan Arts that I came to know Frome. Sitting at a little desk – whilst curious members of the public popped their head round the door and then proceeded to walk (often self-consciously) over the perfectly crooked wooden floorboards, eyeing up the imaginative and well-curated displays of art work – I encountered many a quirky art-enthusiast.
Volunteering for a charity arts organisation is rewarding. Gaining knowledge of the arts, mingling with creatives and knowing that you’re helping with the day-to-day running of a charity is fulfilling.
Since beginning my post as arts coordinator at Rook Lane, I have become acutely aware of how vital volunteers are to the arts. Whether it’s stewarding an exhibition, helping with ticket sales on the door for a concert, lending a hand with the hanging of art work or working behind the bar – Rook Lane Arts events could not happen without the volunteers’ help. They are each a crucial cog in the Rook Lane wheels. Frome is lucky to have so many willing and wonderful people to support the arts organisations.
The arts will get by with a little help from their volunteering friends….
