In August 2014, Random Mouse promotions came into being. A small-scale, grass-roots operation, Random Mouse is about bringing sporadic, small and beautifully-formed gigs to Frome.
For it’s inaugral event, the Mouse hosted a side-splitting gig from Jessica Delfino – feminist potty-mouth and purveyor of a sound coined as “dirty folk-rock” – who dropped into Frome on her way to End of the Road Festival. This beautifully produced and wonderfully offensive evening was well-received by Fromies and folkies, who are now, no doubt, keen to hear what’s next for Random Mouse.
Well, with winter coming and the mirth of summertime at an end, the next event takes an atmospheric note, as Random Mouse presents The Lords of Thyme.
Described the authors of “a dream-like sound that is traditionally English”, The Lords of Thyme came together through a shared love of esoteric folk, psych and progressive music. With a debut EP and single produced by John Wood – best known for his work with Nick Drake, Cat Stevens and Fairport Convention – this new group are already making waves on the contemporary folk scene, with glowing reviews in fRoots magazine and Folk Radio UK.
“With such a promising debut single the Lords of Thyme are a band really worth following.” – Alex Gallacher, Folk Radio UK
The evening promises to beguile and enchant, as these four accomplished musicians bring their shimmering sound to the beautiful surroundings of Rook Lane Chapel. The Lords of Thyme will be supported by local folk songstress Sara Vian, who will perform new material and reworked folk gems. Folkies new and old will delight in this evening of bewitching song and enthralling performance.
The Lords of Thyme (supported by Sara Vian) will perform on Thursday 27th November here at Rook Lane Chapel. Advance tickets are £7 (£5 concessions) are on sale now. Click here to buy.
