The Best Intentions (Den Goda Viljan)
Sunday 5th April
Film at 7:30pm // Doors open an hour before
dir: Bille August Sweden 1992 182 mins subtitled
Written by Ingmar Bergman and charting the marriage of his own parents, this mixes themes recurrent in the films of Bergman the director with the engaging narrative structure he had used to such good effect in “Fanny and Alexander” ten years earlier. In the hands of Bille August, whom one might associate more with Pelle the Conqueror and Indiana Jones, the film presents a fascinating display of how life in 19th century Sweden might have been.
